Problems for Writers

The biggest problem I've had in the past is Writers-Block... I have been trying to write a novel since I was 15 years old. In my formative years, I mainly excelled in science and math. Grammar & Composition caused many bumps in the road towards my goal. The main advice is to never give up or stop writing. Even if it is a horrible grammar perfectionist nightmare! Just write anything. My personal past experience included taking a college writing class. I live in the USA I am 100% sure this will never happen anywhere else. The instructor of the writing class gave us a 500 word essay assignment. The Topic of the assignment was "Why Evolution is fact and not fiction? Many were given a failing grade for stating the truth that evolution was a theory and not a proven scientific fact. This is the type of assignments I faced throughout the whole term. The assignments were contradictory and held no basis in fact. In the case of the evolution essay everyone that stated that evolution is a "theory" and not a proven fact in any form received a failing grade. This creative writing improvement class was no more than a class to brainwash students into believing theories are proven facts. The instructor's only interest was to shove his religious beliefs down our throats. He was not fulfilling the class description. He was not giving us what we were paying him to do. He was not giving us as students creative writing instruction for improvement. This left me with a bitter taste in my mouth since I gained nothing of value from that class. If you wish to build your writing skills, these are things you can do: Write Anything!!! Email yourself your ideas. Write emails to others. Go into chat rooms and actively chat. Most of us have been in a chat room at some point in our lives. I'm not only talking about FB and MySpace. Just a few others as examples are Yahoo, IMVU. There are many others. Chat with a complete stranger. Yes be careful in what you say or put out there. But the over all is have clean fun with it. Start a Roll Playing Game (RPG) writing it with 1-3 people in the same room. I'm far from being a grammar Perfectionist but seeing someone's grammar in a poorer state using "txt" formation would drive me nuts. Other times might meet a Pro RPG writer and I would focus on their writing and I became better because of it. This gave me the motivation and desire to improve my skills. I am still far from perfect. Story, Fanfic Websites Same concept except you are reading different styles. How does this person write first person. What are the little details that make a first person story different from a third person story. Some stories I will find one person will be writing first person (me/I) and the second will be writing as if they are the narrator or as third person. (They heard rustling in the brush behind them. Feeling like frosty ice racing up Corry and Westley spines.) Third person in my experience is when you write in the view point of a character. A narrator tells the whole of the story. In my personal opinion and my personal experiences, everyone is different. Every one has their own personal writing signature that is akin to signing your signature on a document. It is yours. You need to find and capture your personal style. I hope you learn from your own life experiences and never stop my epic fellow story tellers! 😻 I do sometimes rely on a friend to help me when I am in a tight bind. It is always good to have a honest friendly person edit your writing that you are comfortable with. They are not judging you as a person but are willing to help you improve your writing skills.
